About Captain Bach Charters in New Smyrna Beach, FL

As a born and raised Florida native, Captain Hunter Bach became infatuated with outdoors from a young age. Inspired by personalities like Flip Ballot, Steve Irwin and Jose Wejebe, his love for animals and the outdoors naturally progressed to fishing and hunting.

Scalloping and grouper fishing in Weeki Wachi, spearfishing patch reefs and sight fishing permit and bonefish in the Keys, camping and tarpon fishing in the Everglades, chasing snook and pelagics in Stuart, and fishing his home waters of Mosquito Lagoon was all apart of his childhood.

With a passion for teaching and a deep understanding of local fisheries, Captain Hunter Bach delivers a true guided fishing experience.

Having fished all across the state, Captain Bach still finds mosquito lagoon to be one of the most novel and rewarding fisheries the state has offer. From his early teens he began sharing his love and knowledge of Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River by guiding friends and family to its world-class gamefish and transitioned to professional guiding full-time in 2020. Since then he has established himself as one of the premier flyfishing and light tackle guides to call this body of water his “office”.

If you’re looking for a patient, knowledgeable, and hard working fishing guide, Capt. Bach will do everything he can to give you an unforgettable experience.

About the Mosquito Lagoon and the Species You Will be Catching

Mosquito Lagoon is one of Florida's most unique and productive fisheries, stretching through the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and Canaveral National Seashore. This shallow estuary spans more than 36,000 acres and features an incredible variety of habitats, including grass flats, oyster bars, mangrove shorelines, mud bottoms, salt marshes, and protected backwaters. Positioned between Florida's temperate and subtropical zones, the lagoon supports a diverse ecosystem that attracts game fish throughout every season of the year.

Often referred to as a "miniature ocean," Mosquito Lagoon provides year-round opportunities to target Redfish, Snook, Spotted Seatrout, Black Drum, and migratory Tarpon. Seasonal changes create unique fishing opportunities, from summer tarpon migrations and shallow-water trout bites to fall redfish spawning activity and winter sight fishing in crystal-clear water. As temperatures and water levels shift throughout the year, fish move between flats, channels, shorelines, and feeding areas, creating constantly changing conditions that reward anglers who understand the patterns.

Success on these waters comes from observation, precision, and understanding fish behavior. Captain Bach focuses on sight fishing and technical presentations, teaching anglers how to read water conditions, identify feeding fish, and make effective casts in shallow environments. Whether targeting tailing redfish across grass flats, presenting flies to rolling tarpon, or working natural bait patterns around oyster bars and shorelines, every trip is built around the conditions, the season, and the habits of the fish being pursued.
